Up Next Week: A Conversation with Eddie Roberts from the Iconic Funk Band,The New Mastersounds.

The New Mastersounds are a British four-piece jazz fusion and blues/funk band from Leeds, England, that will be headlining Saturday at the Whippersnap Music & Arts Festival at the Florida Sand Music Ranch in just a few short weeks.

Eddie Roberts is best known as the guitarist, producer, and founding member of The New Mastersounds, one of the most respected modern funk and soul bands to emerge from the UK. With a signature style that fuses jazz, funk, soul, and blues, Roberts has built a reputation for delivering tight, groove-heavy performances that feel both classic and fresh.

Beyond The New Mastersounds, Roberts has been involved in a variety of projects. He leads Eddie Roberts & The Lucky Strokes, blending vintage soul and blues influences, and he’s a member of the jazz-funk ensemble Matador! Soul Sounds alongside Alan Evans (Soulive). His work as a producer and label owner with Color Red Music has helped elevate emerging artists in the funk and soul scene, further cementing his impact on the genre.

Whether he’s performing on stage or working behind the scenes to cultivate new talent, Eddie Roberts remains a driving force in the global funk revival. Frankly, he's a fascinating guy who has seen a lot go down in the music industry, so don't miss next week's show.

Festival Performance of the Week: moe. at the Inaugural Sunshine Hootenanny Music & Arts Festival in 2024

This week’s featured festival performance takes us back to the Sunshine Hootenanny Music & Arts Festival, where legendary jam band moe. delivered an electrifying set under the Florida Sands pavilion.

Captured by Music Festivals Podcast, this video from last October showcases moe. in top form with a Florida venue-appropriate opener of their classic song, "St. Augustine", complete with an unbelievable slide guitar jam from long-time band member Al Schnier.  I actually got to stand right next to him while he played this and it was amazing to watch.  If you missed the festival or just want to relive the magic, check out their performance and get lost in the jams.
